Our St. Petersburg College Softball Lady Titans finished 3 – 3 during the first weekend of play at the Junior College Kickoff tournament. Freshman Nikkie Kovalsky dominated in her first outing vs. the reigning national champions Wallace State. She threw a complete game, giving up only 2 hits, no runs and striking out 9.

Sophomore Kelsie Sanchez led the offense going 3 – 3 with a triple and run scored. Sophomore Brianna Skipper hit a double to score the go ahead run in the 4 inning. The final score was 2 – 0.

The next three games ended in defeat for our Lady Titans who were outscored 21 – 9 by their opponents:

TCC: 8 – 0 (L)

ABAC: 2 – 1 (L)

IRSC: 11 – 8 (L)

Our Lady Titans bounced back on Sunday and closed out the weekend with two wins:

Kaskaskia College: 7 – 2

The team came together when facing Kaskaskia College. Freshman Nikkie Kovalsky earned another win vs. Kaskaskia by throwing a complete game with 8 strike outs, 4 hits and 2 unearned runs. She also helped by going 2 – 3 at the plate, with 2 runs scored, a double and an RBI. Freshman Jenn Hodges set the tone by going 1 – 3 with a walk, run scored, RBI and stolen base. Freshman Debbie Brown contributed a sacrifice fly, RBI, walk, stolen base and a hit and Sophomore Kelsie Sanchez was solid with a 2 – 3 game.

Miami Dade 3 – 1

When the team faced Miami, the game was closer, but our Lady Titans came out on top. Sophomore Amanda Chambers went 7 complete innings and gave up only 3 hits, walking 2, 2 strikeouts and 1 earned run. Sophomore Jen Bazylak went 3 – 4 vs. Miami Dade, with a double and run scored.

Freshman Ashley Spell: .412 with 4 RBI and 2 doubles

Sophomore Bri Skipper: .462, 3 RBI and 2 doubles
