St. Petersburg College baseball standout Nick Upperman has officially committed to continue his academic and athletic career at Florida International University, marking another major milestone for the Titans program and its growing reputation for player development.
Upperman, one of the top performers for St. Petersburg College this season, earned attention from multiple programs with his consistent production, competitive approach, and leadership on and off the field. His commitment to FIU reflects both his individual growth and the continued success of SPC in developing collegiate talent ready to compete at the Division I level.
During the 2026 season, Upperman emerged as one of the most dynamic players in junior college baseball. In 43 games played, he posted an outstanding .433 batting average with 45 runs scored, 38 RBIs, 4 home runs, and 33 stolen bases. He also finished the season with an elite .513 on-base percentage and a .616 slugging percentage, showcasing his ability to impact the game in every facet offensively.
Known for his relentless work ethic, toughness, and ability to perform in big moments, Upperman became a key piece of the Titans’ success while continuing to elevate his game against top competition. His combination of speed, athleticism, and offensive consistency made him one of the most difficult players in the lineup to contain throughout the season.
St. Petersburg College Head Coach Oscar Espada praised Upperman not only for his production on the field, but for the impact he made within the program.
“Nick represents everything you want in a student-athlete,” said Head Coach Oscar Espada. “His work ethic, competitiveness, and commitment to improving every single day helped set the tone for our program. He earned this opportunity through consistency, toughness, and the way he competed from day one.”
Espada also emphasized the type of player and person FIU is bringing into its program.
“FIU is getting a complete player and an even better person,” Espada added. “Nick plays the game the right way, he’s a tremendous teammate, and he impacts winning in so many ways. We’re extremely proud of him and excited to watch him continue his career at the Division I level.”
FIU adds a versatile and experienced player who brings maturity, energy, and a team-first mentality to the Panthers program. The move also keeps Upperman in the state of Florida, allowing him to continue competing at a high level while pursuing the next chapter of his baseball journey.
For St. Petersburg College, Upperman’s commitment is another example of the program’s dedication to developing student-athletes academically, athletically, and personally. The Titans continue to produce players capable of making an impact at four-year institutions across the country.
As Upperman prepares for the transition to FIU, his teammates, coaches, and supporters celebrate a well-earned opportunity and look forward to watching his continued success at the Division I level.
